Yours and Matthew's friendship was… interesting, to say the least. To say the most, it more like… "illogical".

You two were nothing alike.

Mathew was quiet, sweet, adorable, and reserved.

You were loud, obnoxious, and at times, impolite.

It was hilarious to observers.  Your dynamics were comedic gold; from your very first meeting.

Matthew was being ignored as usual , when all of a sudden, you appeared out of nowhere.

"Hey. You're Alfred's brother, aren't you?" You asked, annoyed.

"Y-yeah, I am!" he chirped, delighted someone recognized him, not as his brother but who he really was.

"What's your problem?" You hissed, wiping  the smile off his face.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, why don't you ever talk or play with anyone? Your brother's fun; why aren't you?"

Now poor Matthew looked like he might cry. Finally someone noticed him, and he was still being compared to his brother. "I… I don't know… I'm not like my brother, I guess."

Aw jeez. You didn't mean to make him cry! You were just curious!

"H-hey… I'm sorry… I didn't mean it…"

"R-really?" He looked up at you with those big blue eyes.

"Yeah."

"Oh… well that's okay, I guess…."

You smiled at him. "Hey! I got an idea! I'll teach you how to toughen up so you can get noticed!"

Matthew's eyes widened with wonder and joy "You'd do that for me?!"

"Yeah! First, I'll do it for you; you know, show you how it's done! But eventually you gotta do it on your own, okay?"

"Oh, well okay…"

Years passed, and you didn't change one bit… okay, that's not true.

Your time with Matthew softened you a bit, rather than the other way around. Your plan to toughen Matthew up turned into you turning into Matthew's mouthpiece. But you didn't mind, because…

Well, let's get to that later.

You were going through your old stuff, old games and whatnot. But one particular game stuck out to you… suddenly you had to call Matthew.

"Hello?" A voice said. Despite the familiar tone, you knew this was not the brother you were looking for (waves hand)

"Hey, Alfred!" You chirped. Now this, the two of you, Alfred and you, that was a match made in heaven. You two would be perfect for each other; your personalities, your looks, just everything.

But you two were just good friends. You had your sights set on another. 3 guesses who.

"Yo, _______! What's up?"

"Not much, how about you?"

"Same old, same old."

"Haha, I'm sure. So… is there any particular reason you have Mattie's cellphone?"

You heard a gasp on the other side. "WHAT?! THIS ISN'T MY PHONE?"

You facepalmed. Lovable oaf.

"No, Alfred. I dialed your brother's phone number just now."

"Aw jeez. Why doesn't he tell me when I do this?!"

"You know how he is. So I'm assuming he has your phone… again."

"Yeah, probably. Sorry, _______."

"No biggie. I just wanna invite him over for a nostalgia trip over some video games…"

"OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH! IF HE DOESN'T GO, CAN I?!"

See what I mean? Perfect match.

"You're welcome regardless, Alfred. But uh… I was kind of hoping for this to be just me and Matthew…"

"Ohhh~ you finally gonna confess to my brother?"

"S-shut up!" God, what were you thinking when you told this man about your crush? Well to be honest, you didn't tell him… he just happened to figure out by being nosy.

"Dude, it's about time!  My bro's crushing on you so hard; it's kind of adorable, really."

"ALFRED!!"

"What? It's true!"

"Grr… I'm hanging up now. Goodbye, Alfred."

"Kay, later _______! I'd wish you luck, but uh… you don't really need it ~"

Click. Idiot.

You proceeded to dial Matthew's… well, Alfred's number.

"Hello?"

"Hey, Mattie~!" You said cheerfully, maybe trying to drown the sound of your beating heart.

"Oh, hi, _______!"

Awww, he sounded so happy to hear from you! … Gah! Focus; all that will come in time.

"You'll never guess what I found, man!"

"What is it?"

"My old Banjo-Kazooie games!"

Matthew blushed. He wasn't a big fan of video games himself, but whenever he visited you he decided to be a good guest and play the games with you. One of your favorites was the Banjo-Kazooie games.  One day, your folks saw you playing and commented how much you two were like the titular characters; you being the sharp-tongued, kick ass bird kazooie, and him being the polite, kind hearted bear banjo.

From that point on, you gave him the nickname Banjo (which worked on multiple levels since he loved bears), and insisted he called you Kazooie. But you grew older, and the nickname faded from memory.

"That's pretty cool…" He finally replied.

"I know, right? So, you wanna come over and play them for old time's sake… Banjo?"

Until now, that is. "Oh! S-sure… Kazooie." He said, feeling silly calling you by that name.

"Yay! See you in a bit!"

Matthew came over and you two spent countless hours playing the games. And pretty soon, you got into other older games as well.  You two had so much fun  you forgot that you were planning to confess to him…

Until you got a call.

Matthew, it said. You forgot Alfred had his phone for a second.

"Hold on." You told him, picking up your phone.

"Oh, alright."

"Hello?"

"Dude, have you told him you love him yet?!"

"W-WHAT?!" You were so startled you accidently hit the speaker function on your phone.

"I said, 'have you told my little bro you love him yet?'. COME ON MAN, IT'S BEEN   HOURS !"

"Alfred, sh-shut up!"

"Why? I'm just…."

You hung up the phone… but not in time. Matthew looked at you, face bright red.

"____-________.... you… you love me?"

This was not how this was supposed to happen! Granted, you weren't sure how you were going to tell him, but you at least wanted it to come from your own mouth!

"W-well I…" You stammered. No point in lying now. "Yeah, I do."

Matthew's stunned expression turned to one of happiness and relief. "I'm so glad… I- I love you too!"

Now it was your turn to look shocked. "R-really?"

"Yep!" He said, in an unusually confident and chipper voice. Then he did something that really shocked you.

He kissed you.

Although you were surprised, you naturally returned the gesture. You two broke apart when your phone rang yet again.

It was Alfred, probably to yell at you for hanging up on him.

You hit "ignore" and kissed Matthew again.
I really need to stop advertising things I love in my stories...

I stepped out of my comfort zone quite a bit here, since

1. Aside from our love of Banjo-Kazooie, the reader and I have nothing in common. In fact, Matthew and I would probably make a perfect couple... if he were real, and I felt that way about him.

2. I don't have a lot of experience writing for Canada. I hope I didn't make him too weak and submissive. I tried to make up for it in the end... :iconotlplz:

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this.

Oh, and I totally ship BanjoxKazooie. :icondealwithittrollplz:
