Today was supposed to be a normal day.
I planned on spending a nice, quiet day home, alone with my favorite book. Is that too much to ask?
Apparently so, because just as I sat down, I heard a knock at the door. I went to go answer it…
No one was there.
Damn Pranksters, I thought to myself as I started to close the door. Then I felt a tug at my pants.
I looked down and there was an adorable little kitty at my feet in a basket. Naturally I went to pick it up.
"OH MY GOD!! YOU'RE SO CUTE!!!!" I cried, rubbing my face against his.
The cat didn't seem to like this. He let out a warning growl and nearly scratched my face. Startled, I dropped him.
"Yeesh! No wonder someone abandoned you! But why did they leave you on my step?" I wondered.
The cat turned to his side, pulling out a little piece of paper. Smart cat huh? I took the paper and read the message.
Well uh… without getting into too much detail, Romano and I have gotten into a bit of a situation here. I was trying to cast a spell on that bloody frog and well…. Romano got in the way. Anyway, you like Romano, don't you? He likes you too, so I was hoping you could look after him while I look for a way to fix this.
I sighed. I did have a thing for Romano, admittedly. And I loved cats. But that doesn't mean I wanted to babysit! But it looked as if I really didn't have a choice…
"Fine." I said reluctantly. The look on Romano cat's face told me he was none too pleased about the arrangement himself. I went to pick him up, but not before warning him that he'd be taking a very cold bath if he tried to scratch me when I did so. He seemed to take it seriously, allowing me to pick him and take him in the house.
Walking to the living room, I placed my feline companion on the sofa next to me.
"Let's get something straight here, Romano cat. You may look cute and cuddly, but you seem to have the same human brain. So act like it! No scratching furniture, no tearing up my clothes, and until I get a litterbox, you go outside! Understand?"
Romano gave me a look that said "No duh."
I smiled. "Good!"
There was an awkward pause.
"So... You hungry?"
Suddenly his eyes brightened and he licked his lips.
"I'll take that as a yes." I chuckled, petting him a little. "Be right back!"
I made my way into the kitchen.
"Let's see... What do cats like to eat?" I wondered aloud. I stumbled across a can of tuna. Figuring that would do good, I opened it up and added the extra stuff before calling him in.
Romano cat ran into the kitchen at a record speed, eagerly placing himself in front of the bowl. It almost looked like he was smiling...
But if he was, it was wiped off his face when he saw what I made. He turned his cute face up.
"What's wrong? I thought cats liked fish..."
He meowed disapprovingly.
"Well what do you want?"
He looked around, trying to find something. Then he jumped on my counter, taking a bottle of ketchup in his mouth.
"Meow!" he told me, putting his paw on the bottle.
"You just want ketchup?"
He shook his head and pointed to the bottle again.
"Ohhh! You want Tomatoes!" I realized, noticing what he was pointing to.
"Well, I think I might have some..." I trailed off, looking for them. "Ah! Here they are!"
His eyes got big and he reached out his paws.
"Oh! Wait! I should see if tomatoes are bad for cats." I whipped out my phone to check.
"Well... It looks like it could go either way. Sorry, I'd rather not risk it. I promise I'll make you something nice when you're back to normal, okay?"
He looked at me like he wanted to cry.
"I'm sorry, Romano cat. It's just... I'd feel awful if I made you sick... Or worse." I said, giving him puppy dog eyes of my own.
I seemed to win the battle. He looked away, flustered, before reluctantly going to eat the tuna.
"Haha, you'll do anything for a pretty lady, won't you?" I teased, petting him on the head. He responded by eating faster, like he was embarrassed or something.
"Well I'll be reading in the living room. Feel free to join me when you're done, okay?" with that, I got up and did what I said.
I soon got lost in my book once again, so much so that I was unaware I was reading aloud.
I was also unaware Romano cat had joined me till he meowed, alerting me.
"Oh! Hey there! What's up?"
He stared at my book.
"Do you... Want me to read to you?"
He looked at me and nodded.
"Well come on, then!" I told him patting my lap.
He seemed hesitant.
"It's okay, as long as you're a cat." I assured him.
With that, he crawled into my lap. I continued to read until sleep overtook us both...
~Next day time skip ~
I woke up the next day a little bit sore, since the couch wasn't too terribly comfy. So I cracked my neck and tried to stretch.
That's when I noticed a rather heavy weight on my lap...
"Romano! You're back to normal!" I shouted, waking him up.
"Huh?" he said, before observing his hands and sitting up. "Hey! You're right!"
In all the excitement, I briefly lost my head and gave him a quick peck on the lips.
Cue awkward silence...
"Um... Sorry about that."
"N-no, it's fine... I kind of liked it..."
Cue another awkward silence.
"W-well, I guess I should get started on that tomato based meal I promised..." I mumbled.
"H-hold on!" he said, grabbing my arm.
He leaned in and gave me a peck on the lips this time.
"You didn't give me a chance to kiss back, idiota!"
I stared at him for a bit, dazed.
"Haha, sorry." I apologized, kissing him on the cheek. "Now I really would like to get started on that meal I owe you, okay?"
Right on cue, his stomach growled.
"That would be nice."
